10/3/11 - Today, we made the very difficult decision to put Our beloved Rocky down due to his illness. . We know that we were able to give Rocky a loving home for the time that he was with us.He will be greatly missed and we take great comfort in knowing that someday we will see him once again at the Rainbow Bridge. We love you .If I spent my whole life with him, it still would not have been enough time, but I am very thankful for the short time we were together. I knew from the moment I picked Rocky up to bring him to my home as a foster, that he wasn't ever going to leave.Rocky was such a proud man .Always & forever in our hearts .Love you Rocky.

6/17/10 - ROCKY THE SHINING STAR .WE HAD ADOPTED HIM BACK IN DECEMBER OF 09 .HE CAME TO US AS ONLY A TEMPORARY FOSTER .WE JUST COULDN'T HELP OUR SELF'S AND FELT SORRY FOR HIM KNOWING WHAT HE HAS BEEN THROUGH .HE SURE HAS LANDED ON HIS FEET WHEN HE CAME TO US .ROCKY HAD SOME ISSUES WITH GOING TO THE BATHROOM IN THE HOUSE AND HE WOULD DRAIN THE WATER BOWLS DRY ,LEAVING NONE FOR OUR OTHER BABIES TO DRINK .WE KNEW THERE WAS MORE OF A PROBLEM GOING ON .THE VET HAD DIAGNOSED HIM AS HAVING Hyperparathyroidism is a condition in which the parathyroid glands (not the thyroid glands!) produce too much parathyroid hormone. Parathyroid hormone is responsible for maintaining the correct balance of calcium and phosphorous in the blood. If blood calcium is low, the parathyroid hormone level increases, which causes calcium to be taken out of the bone to maintain the correct calcium level in the blood and other tissues. ,The parathyroid glands are located adjacent to or actually inside of the thyroid glands in the neck. There are two types of hyperparathyroidism. ,,,,Primary hyperparathyroidism occurs when one or more of the parathyroid glands becomes cancerous or abnormally produces excess parathyroid hormone. This causes the calcium levels in the blood to be higher than normal. Primary hyperparathyroidism is generally seen in older animals and is more common in dogs than cats. ,,Animals with primary hyperparathyroidism may lose their appetite, vomit, drink and urinate more, and may appear drowsy or listless. The signs often come on gradually and considerable organ damage may occur before the animal shows significant symptoms. ,,The treatment of primary hyperparathyroidism is removal of the abnormal or cancerous gland. The removal of the gland causes a sudden decrease in the amount of parathyroid hormone, and there is a corresponding sudden drop in the blood calcium level. For this reason, the animal must be monitored closely after surgery and given calcium if the level becomes too low. ROCKY HAS HAD THE SURGERY TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM IN MARCH AND THE PARATHYROID THEY REMOVED WAS BENIGN.THOUGH PRIOR TO SURGERY THE VET NOTICED A LUMP ALONG SIDE ROCKY'S NOSE ,SHE HAD ASPIRATED IT AND FOUND IT WAS CANCER ,WE HAD HER REMOVE THAT WHILE HE WAS GOING UNDER FOR THE hyperparathyroidism ,WITH VERY GOOD CLEAN MARGINS .IT WAS SENT OUT AND TESTED AND CAME BACK AS BEING A GRADE 2 MAST CELL TUMOR ,WE PRAY & KEEP OUR FINGERS CROSSED EVERY DAY THAT IT DOESN'T COME BACK .IT HAS BEEN 3 MONTHS AND ALL IS GOOD .JUST LAST WEEK WE TOOK ALL 4 DOGS INTO VET FOR SHOT,LYME & HEARTWORM AND HAD ROCKY'S CALCIUM LEVEL TESTED AND HE HAS AN 8.9. FOR 2 MONTHS SINCE THE SURGERY HE WAS BEING TESTED TWICE A WEEK ,AFTER THAT DR BAY FELT THAT ROCKY WAS MAINTAINING HIS CALCIUM LEVEL .WE REALLY NOTICE THE DIFFERENCE IN ROCKY NOW , IT'S LIKE HE IS A DIFFERENT DOG ,HE SEEMS SO MUCH MORE HAPPIER AND WE ARE PROUD TO SAY SINCE THE SURGERY HE HAS NOT HAD 1 ACCIDENT IN THE HOUSE AND NOW THAT JOE IS BACK TO WORK FULL TIME ,WE NO LONGER CRATE ROCKY .HE HAS BECOME 1 BIG COUCH POTATO . WE NOW HAVE 3 DOGS THAT WE HAD ADOPTED FROM BAR AND WE CANT THANK THEM ENOUGH .WE COULDN'T IMAGINE OUR LIFE'S WITHOUT THEM NOW .,, LOVE ROCKY XOXO

2/3/10 - TIME FOR A ROCKY ROCK UPDATE .SORRY FOR THE DELAY AS I JUST HAD TOTAL KNEE REPLACEMENT.WE ARE JUST IN 7 HEAVEN TO HAVE DADDY HOME WITH US AROUND THE CLOCK EXCEPT FOR THE FEW HOURS HE IS GONE FOR PT.ROCKY HAS GOTTEN SO COMFORTABLE WITH THIS,HE HATES TO BE CRATED.IT'S A CHORE JUST TO GET HIM IN THE CRATE SO WE USE BISCUITS TO LURD HIM IN,WORKS ALL THE TIME .HE HAS A GREAT APPETITE.HE IS VERY APPRECIATIVE OF EVERYTHING YOU DO FOR HIM . AT TIMES I HAVE LEFT HIM OUT & HE JUST LIKES TO HANG OUT AN BE A COUCH POTATO.ROCKY IS NO PROBLEM TO CARE FOR .HE HAS ADJUSTED WELL .HE IS A SMART & INTELLIGENT GUY .HE HAS A HABIT OF STEALING THE BLANKETS. HE DOES THIS CAUSE HE WANTS TO BE COVERED OVER IN THE EVENING WHEN WE ARE JUST HANGING OUT IN THE FAMILY ROOM .IT'S QUITE FUNNY TO WATCH THIS .HE HAS HAD SOME MORE PEE ACCIDENTS IN THE HOME AND DRINKS WAY TOO MUCH WATER.IF WE DON'T STAND OVER THE WATER BOWL TO ALLOW OUR OTHER 3 BOXERS TO DRINK ,ROCKY WILL DRINK ALL THE WATER .WE ARE GOING TO TAKE HIM TO THE VETS AND HAVE BLOOD WORK DONE TO SEE IF THERE IS SOME UNLINING PROBLEMS.ROCKY IS A PLEASURE TO HAVE & WE ARE VERY HAPPY IN ADOPTING HIM .WE LOVE THIS GUY AND HE LOVES US EVEN MORE .

1/6/10 -
Rocky continues to be a great doggie boy and has adjusted well to running with the rest of our pack. He has become very comfortable with his surroundings; he now likes to lay on the couch next to one of us and sleeps in bed snuggled up against one of us at night, of course he has his own blanket we bought him.,,Rocky enjoys his scrambled eggs with his food for breakfast and his treats mixed with his food at night. Rocky also enjoys playing with toys in the evening along with the rest of the doggie kids down in the family room. The only problem Rocky continues to have is his liking of checking out the garbage can in the kitchen. We crate Rocky while we are away from the house but I am sure with free run of the house he would be fine but it's a must that the garbage can be put up and out of harms way .,,Rocky is a special guy that has a lot of love to give and loves attention, he almost falls over when you give him a stereo doggie ear rub or rub the sides of his face. Rocky loves being with another dog(s) for socialization and companionship. Being around the younger doggies kids keeps him active and prevents him from becoming a couch potato.Rocky & our youngest male ,Tyson ,really hit it off well .It funny to watch the two of them play & Rocky will give it right back to him .Rocky has no signs of aggression with toys nor food .He has an excellent personality .He has become a Mama's boy.,,We have really fallen in love with this guy and it was easy to do.

12/27/09 - ROCKY HAD HIS WELLNESS EXAM TODAY AND CHECKED OUT WITH A CLEAN BILL OF HEALTH .HE WAS A VERY GOOD PATIENCE.HE WILL BE NEUTERED THIS COMING THURSDAY . HE RIDES VERY WELL IN TRUCK .WHAT CAN I SAY ,OTHER THAN HE IS A VERY HAPPY CONTENT BOY WITH A LITTLE BIT OF MANNERS TO LEARN ,OTHER THAN THIS HE IS PERFECT ANGEL JUST WAITING FOR HIS FOREVER HOME .

12/28/11 - ROCKY CONTINUES TO BE SO WELL BEHAVED YOU CAN EASILY FORGET THAT HE IS HERE AT TIMES .ROCKY IS YOUR TYPICAL SENIOR CITIZEN WHOM LOVES TO EAT & SLEEP & CUDDLE UP TO YOU AND TAKE A NAP .OK.... I WON'T LIE ,AT TIMES ROCKY CAN BE A THEFT .HE MANAGED TO STEAL A PIECE OF ITALIAN BREAD OFF THE TABLE AFTER WE GOT DONE WITH XMAS DINNER .HE WILL & HAS KNOCKED THE GARAGE CAN OVER & LOVES TO COUNTER SURF .WE DON'T ALLOW THIS WITH OUR OTHER 3 SO ROCKY HAS A LITTLE BIT OF MANNERS TO LEARN WHILE STAYING AT THE 5 ***** MOTEL.ROCKY KNOW SIT ,STAY COME ,DOWN &OFF .EVERY MORNING ROCKY GETS SCRAMBLED EGG W/ HIS KIBBLE .HE HAS QUITE THE APPETITE .I CAN'T GO UP IN THE KITCHEN WITHOUT ROCKY FOLLOWING ME ! ROCKY HAS BECOME VERY COMFORTABLE HERE ,HE REALLY IS OPENING UP .IT WASN'T TILL XMAS EVE WHEN I LET THE DOGGIES CHILDREN OPEN THERE GIFTS AND DON'T YOU KNOW ,OUT OF THE CLEAR BLUE SKY ,ROCKY STARTED PLAYING WITH THE BALLS .I THOUGHT FOR SURE ROCKY DIED & WENT TO HEAVEN ,THE LOOK ON HIS FACE WHEN HE GOT STEAK W/ KIBBLE FOR XMAS DINNER .ROCKY HAS NOT HAD ANY ACCIDENTS IN THE HOUSE SINCE THE FIRST WEEK THAT HE HAS BEEN HERE ,SO MAYBE NERVES OR STRESS.ROCKY HAS A WELLNESS EXAM ON MONDAY & SOON TO BE NEUTERED.ROCKY DOESN'T MIND BE CRATED &KEEPS HIS CRATE DRY .ROCKY WILL DO HIS BUSINESS OUTSIDE BUT HE WANTS NO PART OF HANGING OUT IN THE COLD ,HE PREFERS TO BE INDOORS .ROCKY WOULD DO GOOD IN A HOME WHERE THE ACTIVITY LEVEL ISN'T TOO HIGH & OTHER DOGGIES ,MALE OR FEMALE ,HE DOES WELL WITH .MORE UPDATES TO FOLLOW ,,LOVE ROCKY

12/15/09 - HOME WITH ANOTHER DOG. ROCKY WAS RAISED WITH ANOTHER DOG WHO PASSED AWAY AND ROCKY BECAME LONELY AND LOST WEIGHT WHEN THIS HAPPENED. HE FIT IN GREAT WITH OUR 3 BOXERS.  ROCKY IS AN OLDER GUY THAT LOVES TO EAT AND GET AN EAR RUB. HE HAS A GOOD PERSONALITY AND GETS ALONG WITH OUR 3 BOXERS. WE HAVE NO CHILDREN THAT LIVE WITH US SO HE HAS NO EXPOSER TO CHILDREN. ROCKY LIKES TO SLEEP IN BED WITH US AND HANG OUT IN THE FAMILY ROOM IN THE EVENING. ROCKY HAS HAD A FEW ACCIDENTS IN THE HOUSE, MAYBE STRESS OR NERVES, HE HAS ONLY BEEN WITH US FOR 48 HOURS.
