MAC 3/7/09 - Returned to
Sorry for the
delay in updates. Mac plays with his little squeaky ball all by
himself and I even catch him joining the others in a quick game of
wrestle. We go on a daily walk and Mac is always lingering behind. I
find myself almost dragging him along by the end of a 1/2 hour walk. He
has lost all of his excess fat and looks like a healthy fit dog again.
7/10/11 - Mac has moved back to his original BAR foster home who just loved him and welcomed him back with open arms! Mac has been with us for about a week now. He has been a superb boy. He is just like I remember him, following me around the house, watching everything everybody does. I think he is better off in a quiet household, although he does show you some lively activity once in a while, however it does not last for very long. He is very good about staying in the yard, he will wander around the yard for a bit then find a nice place to relax and sleep until I get home. He is due for a thyroid check this week, fingers crossed that he is all good. more to come...
6/17/11 -Hi my name is Mac, I am having a great time at my foster home, however I want to find my forever home. I am a lovable old guy that still has some puppy in me. I frequently play with my foster brother Ziggy and when we get tired, we lay down and continue to play. My foster parents have filmed my buddy and I playing, hopefully they will post it on line real soon so that you can see how much fun and lovable I am. They posted it, here is the link. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_C5k0ouRU8A,
5/31/11 - Mac is doing so awesome! He is getting more full of life every week. Its amazing! I was told that he wasn't a great watch dog, but now form the help of my pack, he is! When some one knocks at the door or the bell rings, he will give a few barks. I have changed his profile of good with children under 5 to unknown. He does live and do well with my 6 year old, but she is very used to foster dogs. Mac is not unfriendly, just big! Sometimes when he plays, he leans and he loves to mouth, not bite but play mouth. He is pretty strong and I wonder how a more inexperienced child would fare with such a tough guy. I say tough, but not in that way. He is a mush! He lays by my side, sits on my lap, gives paw all the time and likes you to hold his toy while he chews on it. Today was bath day and he was the only one to stand ther when the water went on! I have hot water connected to my outdoor hose so it is nice to bathe them. I don't even have to hold on to him for the process as he just stands there. He is so easy.,I have noticed in the last week that his drinking has calmed down and I don't need to restrict him as usual. When he has his blood test for his thyroid, it was still a little low. It was recommended to me to try to give his pill not with his meals and it seemed to make a difference. We give him a pill an hour before breakfast and one two hours after dinner. Mac is so sweet and is desperate to find a forever home to call his own. You won't be dissapointed!,
5/18/11 - Mac is still doing great. I took him to the vet
yesterday. He is down to 83lbs. He looks great! He is more playful now
too! At night he loves to snuggle in his bed. He sleeps through the
night and then in the morning he rolls over on his back and wiggles
around for about a minute or two. He is so sweet. He still likes to
drink a lot and I feel he would be best where you can control his
drinking which controls the need to go out. He is very good about
letting me know when he has to go. When he wants attention, he puts his
head on your lap and looks up at you with those big eyes. He just melts
your heart! Mac will make anybody very happy.
5/9/11 - Mac has adjusted very well in our home. It still amazes me how little time it takes for these guys to get comfortable. He is such a sweet boy. And let me tell you, for his age, he is amazing! When he wants to run (not very often ), boy can he! His water issues seem to be getting better. I am not a cautious as I was about how much water I keep down because he doesn't seem to look for it as much. This weekend I even put out my big water water fountain outside. I was afraid I wouldn't be able to, thinking he would drink every last drop. So far he doesn't bother it at all. My other dogs think it is their personal fountain! At night, when he has had enough for the day, he will go upstairs all by himself and go to bed. Before that he would walk around and moan until I went up and then he would follow. Mac is such a kind sole, I hope he finds a home he could call his own as so deserves it.
4/12/11 - I can't believe Mac has been here over a week. He seamlessly fits in with all the dogs and people like he has been here forever! He really is so sweet. Likes it best when I am around but is starting to follow the dogs more and more. We had a huge breakthrough yesterday. I cleaned his ears all by myself and he could care less! A lot different from the first time. He got tons of belly rubs for that one and was so proud of himself. I was told to try it without squirting the cleaner in his ear, so that's what I did. The family is going on vacation for a week so there won't be any updates, but I promise to report in as soon as I get back. Grandma comes to stay with the other dogs and I was going to find an alternate home since he is still new here and grandma already has 4 dogs to look after. I have decided to can that idea since he is so well behaved. I'm sure grandma will have very good reports for me when I return. Whoever decides on Mac is going to be very lucky. He really melts your heart. All he wants is love.
4/6/11 - Well, Mac has been with with us for 4 days! He seems like he has been here forever the way he fits in. I have noticed he drinks a lot which might be nerves, but we will get it all checked out by my vet. So far he tolerates bathing, teeth cleaning and eye washes. Doesn't care to have his nails done and did not tolerate having his ears cleaned at all. I will have the vet do that. Maybe we'll try again when he is more comfortable here. I usually do not let my fosters up stairs for sleeping for a while. The first night my husband slept on the couch and the second night we left him down stairs and he cried most of the night! On night 3 we brought his bed up in our room and he slept quietly like a baby, so that is our new routine. I think because he is hard of hearing, he likes the visual. When I am home he mostly just follows me around and when I settle he finds a comfy spot on the ground. Mac does not get on any furniture nor does he try. When it is play time he is a big leaner! We got him weighed, he is 90lbs!! He has the biggest chest and neck I have ever seen. This is a really fun boy and would make anyone really happy!
4/3/11 - Unfortunately family circumstances have changed and Mac must
be returned to BAR through no fault of his own.
9/13/09 - Well today was Mac's lucky day. He found his forever home. We were very sad to see Mac go but the look on his face when he say he had a little boy, who loves sports, all to his own he was sold. He jumped right into their car and off they went. Have fun Mac and enjoy your new family!!
9/11/09 - Mac is pending adoption
8/28/09 - Well we just came back from one of the best camping trips ever, for the first time all four dogs could come together and Mac was just part of the crowd. He behaved himself so well, he slept in his crate in the tent but only in case he "forgot" to let us know he had to go. He was just perfect, unleashed the whole time and he stayed right there in our site. We were right on the river so he thought it was a present for him...water all day long and an endless bathroom, and did we mention constant cooking, he was in heaven. They were all so sad to come back home, they had a great time with plenty of exercise, we couldn't have asked for a better group of dogs.
8/9/09 - Mac has been doing great. He has been getting much better at swimming and learning fetch. Sometimes he just wants to rip the ball to shreds instead of retrieving it. oh well, so long as he has fun. We have learned that Mac has seasonal allergies, he looks awful, running eyes sneezing all the time, but we have been giving him benedryl twice daily and it seems to do the trick for the most part. More updates to come
7/14/09 - We went to the park the other day and had a swim and I swear that Mac does more drinking of the water than swimming. He has been great and doing well. A few weeks ago we went camping and he was sooo well behaved. He enjoyed sitting by the fire and watching us eat our s'mores hoping that he would get one too,no such luck for him. We have now built a fire pit in the backyard and have been sitting by it daily. Mac loves to get as close the it as he can and snuggle up against whoever is closest to him. I'm sure he would fall asleep there and probably stay all night. More updates soon and some pictures to follow.
6/24/09 - So Sorry for the delay in updating Mac. As some of you
may know we have had quite the spell of rain which leaves playtime at a
minimum. Mac still manages to occupy himself, by himself with a variety
of toys. For the few days that it was nice here in CT we took the dogs
to the park to see if Mac could swim. No such luck, but that will all
change, I will tell you by the end of the summer he will be swimming
like a fish. He tries really hard to please us so I know he will pick
this up quickly. He loves the water down by the pond, most likely
because there are tons of frogs he can chase and pounce, free toys who
could argue with that? He loves to drink out of the hose while you are
trying to use it but is not so fond of the sprinkler. Just recently we
have been taking Mac the the
ball parks to
baseball games, he loves it!! He watches the ball go from player
to player and only wishes he could participate too!! He loves being at
the park and everyone there is always amazed at how good and young he
looks for an "old man". Mac has been doing great with his thyroid
medication and has only had a few accidents in the house since being on
the meds, the accidents are usually us not paying attention to him at
that very moment. Ever
since being on the meds his attitude has picked up and he has
become a new dog.
3/31/09 - Mac went to the vet yesterday, everything went well. When they asked us how old he was and we said 10 yrs they were shocked because he was jumping all over the place, being so young and lively. Mac's T4 count is low (thyroid) so they are prescribing him some medication and retesting him in 3-4 weeks, which hopefully explains the excessive drinking and urinating. They also said to watch the mass on his shoulder to make sure it doesn't get any larger. Other than that he is doing great. He has learned the ways of the house and seems to be loving it. We have been having such nice weather here that we have been going on walks lasting a couple of hours. Mac hasn't really learned that walks actually mean walking, he seems to think that every little spot has to be smelled and observed by himself. It is very funny to watch but does make the walk that much longer. After walks Mac comes home and passes out on the couch, sometimes the floor if he can't get himself up there. Mac is starting to look more and more like a normal dog, his hair is growing back in nicely, his hair is starting to become unstained, he is beginning to develop muscle instead of fat, and putting on weight where needed.
Mac is adjusting to his new home very well. Within days, he met our
other dogs, with much success. Just a couple sniffs, and he wanted to be
on the other side of the gate. He seems to be very friendly with other
dogs and does not show any signs of aggression whatsoever (with food,
toys, or strangers). He is definitely more submissive than dominant. He
is very interested in our cats, He would love to follow them all around
the house if we would let him. He has met them, and seems to want to
play with them more than anything.
3/8/09 - Mac is a very
handsome, affectionate boxer boy. For an older gentleman he has a lot of
energy. At first look you wouldn't think he was ten. He
loves chasing the ball around. The best part of Mac's day is sleeping on
his comfy bed after a walk. He listens very well, you just need to speak
a little louder than usual, he knows sit, stay, come, and when he's
naughty goes in the crate. He gets along great with other
dogs and cats. He
is very friendly with anyone that he comes across.
